2020 GLOBAL AWARD ACHIEVEMENTS & 2021 AWARD NOMINATIONS

At the end of 2019, the International Education Division (IED) of the DET, called on schools to nominate high achieving international students across a broad range of categories for the annual Global Learning Awards. The two students nominated from Brighton were John Nguyen (Academic Excellence; Year 11 in 2019) and Ling Giang Joanna Nguyen (Community Engagement; Year 12 in 2019). Both students were successful in receiving ‘Commendation Awards’ in 2020.

Please refer to the attachment for student profiles.

You will see, as has been the case for a number of years, that Brighton SC International students feature prominently once again.

The awards are a celebration of not only student success, but also teacher support, encouragement and effort. Well done to all of us!!

From our 2020 cohort, we have nominations submitted in 3 major categories:

  1. John Nguyen (Year 12 Leadership)
  2. Masaya Shakano (Year 12 Resilience and Innovation)
  3. One of our Homestay families, nominated for ‘Homestay of the Year’

The 2021 awards will be judged over the coming 3 weeks with announcements made later on in the year.

2021 will continue to be challenging for many international students, especially those with homestay arrangements who have not seen parents/family for more than a year and are unlikely to do so anytime soon…

Jessica, Thuy and myself are available to support students with their needs and teachers with any student concerns.

Thank you again for all you do to support our International Students.
