Garden Update

The 5/6 students have been busy in the garden across the last 2 weeks. Rebuilding fences, cutting back plants in the chicken coop, harvesting plums and apples, planting radishes, and constructing tee pees. They also took on the challenge of identifying different plants in their kitchen garden using only the plant's leaves.

The share table continues to be a great success on a Wednesday afternoon. The 5/6 students have taken on the responsibility of running the share table and are encouraging their fellow students to take something home to share with their families. They are quickly learning the different names of the fruits, vegetables and herbs. We welcome families to bring in any extra produce they may have from their gardens to be shared with the school community. Please drop it to the garden shed on a Wednesday morning and the students will prepare it for the table later in the day.

Kitchen Update

Wow, what a busy term we have had in the kitchen.

Our harvests have been bountiful allowing us to make and taste a wide variety of foods. We have also had the opportunity to preserve lots of foods to use during the winter months and to sell through our café.

It has been great to see so many students taste produce that is knew or unknown to them often with surprising results.

The vegetable paella we made was a huge success. Students even enjoyed the artichoke hearts that we had preserved last year.

Next term the students in grade3/4 will commence their kitchen program. They will be cooking on Wednesdays. Please see attached flyer if you are interested in helping during these sessions.

I am proud to say that the students in Grade1/2A  have learnt many new skills during their term in the kitchen. Each week they built and re-practised skills learnt in previous sessions. Last week they made Sausage Rolls. A variety of skills were required to create our tasty treat.

Next term the students in grade 3/4 will commence their kitchen program. They will be cooking on Wednesdays. Please see attached flyer if you are interested in helping during these sessions.

Mr Smiths’ class ( 1/2 B) will be the next Junior Class to participate in the kitchen.

Please see attached flyer if you are able to assist.

Our tasty recipes from both senior and junior classes are attached.
