2021 Foundation Student Photos

With the tremendous success of the Geelong Advertiser "My First Year" prep photo series last year, the Geelong Advertiser is offering Geelong region schools the opportunity to be part of a souvenir lift and online gallery.  The photographer will visit our school today and 'My First Year' edition will be published in the Geelong Advertiser on March 30.

Maths in Foundation

Ready, Set, Go! In the lead up to last week’s Whole School Athletics Carnival students have been racing to learn about ordinal numbers. The Foundation Students enjoyed learning this skill through a range of activities.

Years 1 and 2

Reading

In reading, students have been exploring different narratives and retelling the story using the structure of a narrative (orientation, complication and resolution). They have looked at interesting vocabulary in the texts and provided antonyms and synonyms for these words. This week they are learning strategies to answer literal comprehension questions where the answer can be found ‘right there’ in the text.

Writing

In writing, students have been using punctuation to assist others in reading their writing. They have looked at the purpose of capital letters, full stops and quotations marks. Students have participated in shared editing activities and explained the role of different punctuation types. They have also applied this knowledge when writing parts of a narrative.

Maths

In maths, students have been learning about place value. We have completed a range of activities in which we have been making, naming, reading and recording numbers. Recently we have been focussing on the importance of understanding the base 10 system. Importantly that ‘10 of these is one of those’.

Performing Arts

This term our highlights have been:  being mime artists, using our facial expressions and bodies to express emotion, playing emotional quadrants, traffic lights and freeze statues, performing The Three Little Pigs and creating our own superheroes and villains.
