English
Reading
This week in reading we have been looking at what fluent readers do. We identified that fluent readers read with expression, read the punctuation, read as if they are talking and understand what they are reading. Each student has identified a reading fluency goal that they would like to keep working on independently and in reading conferences with the teacher.
Writing
In writing this week we have been applying our knowledge of how to create a descriptive setting and mood into a full narrative. We have been working through the writing process of planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing to create our own narrative.
Word Study
Over the last two weeks we have been revising the 5 jobs of 'Silent Final E'. We have been applying our knowledge during word study bootcamps to work out which job the SFE is doing in different words.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, this week we have been learning about estimation and using approximate calculations. We have discussed applying these strategies in real life situations. The students have become knowledgeable and confident in using estimation and rounding off.
Unit of Inquiry
We have begun a new unit of inquiry, 'How We Organise Ourselves', focusing on how rules and laws support communities. The students have been challenged with a provocation to stimulate their thinking about why we have rules in our daily life.
Wellbeing
In class we have continued to encourage the students to use a variety of different Mindfulness techniques to support their Wellbeing.
We encourage all students to make the most of the holidays and enjoy a relaxed and less structured schedule. Enjoy time with friends, spontaneity and fun in the great outdoors. This is the best way to achieve positive wellbeing.
