Symbol of Commemoration

ANZAC MEMORIAL WREATH

VCAL students undertook an interdisciplinary project to acknowledge and show respect to ANZAC’s, as part of the Personal Development Community Projects subject.

In turn, student’s researched information around ANZAC spirit and decided to build a memorial wreath in recognition of sacrifices made by the ANZACS.  Students agreed that a commemoration wreath is a very practical way to influence others to act in support of the ANZAC spirit, build credibility for Staughton College and the VCAL program.

Since World War I, wreaths have been laid at memorials to remember those Australians who died in service during wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. We learned this is a tradition that can be traced back to Greek mythology.

ANZAC Day is of course, a time to pay tribute to those who have served in the ADF and lost their lives during that service, or as a result of that service. It's also a time to recognise the selfless contribution of those serving today. The VCAL students recognise this commitment.

Students worked in small groups to design, plan, follow instruction and then build a wreath with gum leaves and poppy’s in the design.

This was an excellent project for our group as it promoted cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and deliverables.  We are planning to present this wreath and letters to the RSL Melton.

It is hoped that this project goes a long way to displaying student passion for the ANZAC cause, and hopefully will spark that same passion in other students and local community.

Well done to all the students involved; Aimee-Lee Bates, Luke Cassar, Tianna Ely, Nicole Komitti, Mitchell Kynaston, Jonathon McIIntosh, Alia Safdari, Luke Shiangolis, Eleni Tulaga.
