Love Bites

Last week the Year 10 cohort participated in the Love Bites Program. Love Bites is a Respectful Relationships Education Program that aims to give young people a safe environment to examine, discuss and explore respectful relationships.

Throughout the day, we all participated in some fun activities and watched some videos about different relationship types, both positive and negative.

Within this topic, we learnt the different ways people can act during a relationship and their different perceptions on what they were doing. We got asked some questions and gave our honest answers on whether we thought the situation was ok or not and why that is. During different situations, we started understanding that depending on the person, they could see it as a different level of severity and we all have our own different views for the same thing. We learnt about the ways people act in a relationship, and whether we can identify red flags.

Another thing that we were taught about was the ways consent can be given, and that the way someone acts doesn’t mean you have given or received consent. During this topic, a Police Officer came in to talk about the dangers of social media, and how consent plays a big role in most of our daily life. As scary as it was to hear, the topics she was touching on were very important and useful for future years. Some of the things she mentioned were quite surprising to some students as we didn't know the extent of that issue. We found this to be extremely valuable information.

The Love Bites Program was quite a fun and interesting experience for all Year 10 students.
