French News

Chères familles,

Les enfants sont fantastiques!

In ten weeks, they’ve progressed tremendously and are now very confident in French.

They can respond to some instructions repeated frequently during our class routines, such as: “assieds-toi” (sit down), “lève-toi!” (stand up!), “on range!” (let’s pack up), “mets le chapeau” (put your hat on), “écris!” (write), “dessine!” (draw), “colorie” (colour), “où est...?” (where is?), “cherche!” (find), “qui est...?” (who is?).

They’ve also been introduced to a new story, “Les Trois Petits Cochons” (The Three Little Pigs) and can gesture and say all the words en français!

In maths, we started measurement (“les mesures”) and learned to compare and measure (“mesure”) to tell what object is the longest (“le plus long”), the shortest (“le plus court”), the same length (“la même longueur”). We then introduced them to using informal units of measurement.

C’est très, très bien tout le monde et passez de bonnes vacances! (enjoy the holidays!)

En Somali !

Anab came into our year 2 bilingual class to read to us in Somali and teach us how to say hello (“See tahay”). The students loved hearing Anab read to us and learning new words, students who speak Somali at home were very proud to share their language with us.
