Find Their Feet is an immersive careers event for Year 8, 9 and 10 students and their parents designed to help you navigate this uncertain future.

The 7 - 7.40pm session time is reserved for Northcote High Students.

Much more than a careers expo

Find Their Feet is an immersive journey through time, from our industrial past to the technologically advanced future. After reflecting on their own unique interests, skills and strengths, students will place an avatar of themselves in the future world of work — a vast immersive landscape representing the future North made up of six distinct zones:

People Services (Health care and Social Assistance);
Food (Retail, Markets, etc.);
Construction;
Life Long Learning (Education & Training);
Tech / Bio Tech (Professional, scientific and technical services); and
The New Manufacturing (Trades and Manufacturing).

Future-focussed industry experts will be on hand to guide students on their journey and help with practical advice, support and next steps.

Be surprised by the skills students already have, and how useful they will be in the future
Transform anxiety into excitement as students see a place for themselves in the future world of work
Be ready and able to support students to take the all-important next steps.

Are parents/carers required to attend?

Yes, students must be accompanied by an adult.

Do parents/carers need to book a separate ticket?

No, each ticket includes entry for one student and their accompanying adult.

VTAC update for Year 12 students

Year 12 students who wish to pursue tertiary studies next year should have completed their VTAC registration during the holidays, and some will be finishing off SEAS and Scholarship applications this week.

They have also all been given a postcard with important dates and a checklist to help them with the ATAR release and Change of Preference period. They will have access to the relevant resources on myNorthcoteHigh until early next year, and are welcome to contact Kylie Witt and/or their sub school team for further assistance. This includes next year, after the offer rounds begin.

During the first Change of Preference period from December 14, Kylie Witt will be available at school for assistance until COP closes on December 19. All the unis will hold COP events on the weekend after ATARs are released, so the best plan of attack is to attend these events before seeking help on the Monday or Tuesday of the following week if needed. We run a VCAL program here at NHS, but the very nature of VCAL is that is can be offered in many different formats, and different formats suit different people. If you are curious about other VCAL options, you may wish to look into Melbourne Polytechnic’s course at their information evening.

Federation University Year 12 Scholarship

Twelve scholarships, valued at $5000 each, are awarded to students completing Year 12 in 2018 who enrol at Federation University Australia in 2019. The scholarship will be awarded based on a student’s overall academic potential, contribution to their school and community, supporting statement from the School Principal and seek to study at FedUni in 2018.

Monash Indigenous Summer Camp

From 4 - 8 December, 2018 Monash University invites Indigenous students from year 10 – 12 to participate in the Experience Monash Indigenous Summer Camp.

The 2018 summer camp aims to provide an in-depth insight into university life, while focusing on team-building, motivation, meeting new people, confidence-building, and health and wellbeing.
