Wellbeing

Teamwork

Congratulations to Jodie Gates and the SRC for their outstanding enthusiasm in the past two weeks in the area of social and emotional wellbeing, leading a number of initiatives across the school.

Bully No Way Day: BBPS marked this national day with a splash of orange, participating in classroom activities that unpacked bystander behaviour and created a whole school pledge in support of bullying prevention. Keep an eye out for aerial footage of our day, to be shared next term.

Wellbeing Week: Last week, students engaged in a range of learning experiences that focussed on practicing gratitude – our focus for the term. This included a Friendship Lunch, where grade 6 leaders led their multi-age group in an activity:

‘What makes me happy’ or ‘My happiest memory’

Draw/write it on a sticky note. Tell someone about what you’ve chosen.

We’ll be using these to create a display in our school next term.

The Resilience Project: Many thanks to all families who Zoomed into our parent webinar. Always thought provoking, Hugh reminded us again of the importance of gratitude, and provided a few timely tips about approaching our relationship with our kids:

  • Keep working to let your child know they are worthy and enough, as they are – not based on success but based on being them.
  • Model happiness. Model love.
  • Support, but don’t solve their problems for them.
  • It’s not our job to make their lives as easy as possible, it’s about growth through adversity.

Commitment to Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships: We know that schools play an important role in taking action and laying the foundations for values and beliefs about gender equality, striving for equal power providing opportunities for all people. At BBPS, we remain committed to this action through our involvement in the state-wide RRRR curriculum, which supports us to address the underlying causes of all violence, beyond school and into the future. Next term teachers engage in whole school professional development focused on Topics 7&8: Gender & Identity; and Positive Gender Relations; and there will be numerous opportunities for families to be further involved together in our learning. Stay tuned next term.
