Delahey Campus Principal Message

VACC

We are proud of our students and staff’s connection and work with the community. It is wonderful to hear acknowledgement of this work. We received a letter from Chris Whyte from VACC (Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce) praising our work.

“This letter is intended to make you aware of the excellent program being currently delivered at your College. The VACC want to acknowledge that outstanding work that your VET in Secondary Schools team are delivering. With special mention to Chris Larkin – Head trainer, Automobile Program.” As a sign of appreciation the VCAA have donated a full toolbox to the value of $1500 for student use in the workshop.  The full letter follows this article. We want to congratulate Chris and his hard work on behalf of the College.

VCE Exams

Last month saw our year 12 students represent themselves with pride by giving their best in undertaking the end of year VCE exams. We want to congratulate them all for their hard work and dedication.

Year 12 Formal

The year 12 formal  was held on 27 November. On this night we celebrate the culmination of 13 years of education with the students and teachers. We wish the graduating class of 2019 all the best with their results and future endeavours, be in work or study.

Fit 2 Drive Program

The Team Leaders ran the Fit 2 Drive Program for our year 11 students. This program is facilitated by University students with the aid of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Victoria Police. It is designed to inform young people of the responsibilities of a driver and to prepare them to make appropriate choices as a driver. “A key point of difference of the F2D workshop is to focus on the behaviour and responsibilities of all road users. F2D workshops do not utilise any scare tactics or driving instruction.  The development of a personal safety plan encourages young people to consider how they will travel at all times and in particular what they will do if they are faced with a risky situation or are feeling unsafe”.

2020 Planning

As a campus, our staff have been working as a team to plan for next year. We have been busy with subject allocations for teachers and subject selections with our students. Staff are working on documenting curriculum and preparing for next year’s classes.

Our transition programs began in week 8 with our Year 11 stepping up to work as Year 12 in readiness for next year. They worked hard on preparing for classes in 2020 and we encourage them to get an early start and be ready for an amazing year.

We welcomed the year 10 students from both Kings Park and Sydenham Campus for their exams. We also worked with these students to support their transition to our Senior Campus and prepare them to begin their VCE or VCAL programs in 2020.  Teachers were able to help them settle in to their new “home”, get to know their new teachers and peers as well as become familiar with the new programs in readiness for 2020.

Music Concert

On the 14th November we were presented with an array of talented students across each of our Campuses at the end of year Music Concert. We were treated to some amazing talent with powerful voices and amazing musicians. Thank you for a wonderful night.

Renovations

Over the next month and early next year we will see major works as we upgrade the roof of the Delahey College buildings. Staff are packing up the Art block so that the works can begin during January. There will be portables provided as learning spaces and this should not interrupt our learning programs. Once this is complete the builders will then work on the administration building and finishing with the M-Block and Study Centre.

Year 12 Students

We want to take this opportunity to congratulate all the year 12 students in completing their secondary school education. We are pleased to announce that our class of 2019 did us proud, upholding the College study score median of 28.  We congratulate James Randich being awarded the Dux of the College with a study score of 98. We wish the graduating class of 2019 all the best in the new pathways, be it university, TAFE, apprenticeships or workplaces. We are proud of your achievements, well done.

We wish all our students, parents, caregivers and staff all the best for the festive season. We hope you all have a fabulous and safe summer.  Thank you all for your support this year and we look forward to another year with our amazing students in 2020.
