Year 7 Soccer

On Tuesday 10 September our Year 7 Soccer team competed at state finals of the School Sport Victoria interschool competition. The first match was won 2-1. The second game was another win, 3-1. In the third round the team pulled out another win (2-0) against Ballarat High School. This put the MGSC team through to the grand final against Balwyn High School.

We were unable to score against a formidable opposition and were happy to come away as the State runner’s up. ‘Great job’ to Ana and Cassia for scoring most of our goals.  A big congratulations to all the participants. Special thanks to my fellow student coach Olive Lyons and to our teacher coach Ms Stefanie Cappuccio

Athletics Trials

Poor weather conditions forced the annual House Athletics day scheduled for Term 1 to be cancelled. To select participants for upcoming athletic competitions, a day of athletics trials was held on Friday 30 August. We had a great day in the sunshine with some terrific results throughout the day and we were lucky enough to witness a few new records:

  • Kissy Berntsen broke our very own Ms Teagan Dixon’s 2001 shot put record by 40 cm
  • Kissy also broke a Javelin record which has been set since 1999 by 8 metres
  • Milly Webster broke the Age 16 100 metre record by 0.25 of a second
  • Megan Blignaut broke the 17 age group discus record by 1.6 metres – this record hasn’t been broken since 1983.

Intermediate netball

On Monday 9  September our Intermediate netball team made their way out to Jells Park to represent our school  in the state finals. We were set to play three games followed by a possibly final, after all rounds. Our first competition had issues making it on time and unfortunately had to forfeit, giving us a win by default. Followed by two other close games, losing to Catholic College Sale by three points and Emmanuel College by just 1 point. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day and we were organising to leave when we realised we had made it into the semi finals on percentage due to all three teams in our pool being equal with 1 win and 2 losses.

Playing the winners of the other pool the girls put up a really good fight but unfortunately weren’t able to win, losing by 15 points to very strong competition.

Olympic Change Maker Forum

Two of our senior students, Millie Belleville and Nat Desylva attended the Olympic Change Maker forum last Wednesday. Millie shares her experience.

On Wednesday 4 September I had the privilege of attending the Olympic Change Maker Forum at Victoria University. It was an absolutely amazing day where students from all over Victoria came together to meet and hear from a number of Olympians, learn about leadership within the community and through sports, as well as gain advice and skills from the Olympians and other students that will be used in not just our sporting and leadership journeys but everyday life. I am so fortunate to have been nominated as an Olympic Change Maker and will not forget what an amazing day I had.
