SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The weather gods were not on our side for the 2014 edition of the Swimming Carnival. With low temperatures and rain forecast, McKinnon students braved the elements to do anything they could for their house.
Rio carnivale was the theme this year and we saw masks, feathers and lots of colour from everyone involved. The first event was the fashion parade and we had the best involvement ever seen at McKinnon. The drizzle may have been pouring down, but that did not dampen the spirits. Some houses even managed to mix in a dance with their parade, in the hope of gaining crucial points. In the end it was Flynn led by Miss Doctor that was voted the best dressed house.
Swimming events were hotly contested this year, and it was Monash that skipped away to the early lead. Students participated in an array of events including novelties, beach volleyball, diving and water polo.
In the tightest contest in years, the lead changed four times over the day with Chisholm, Gilmore and Monash pushing further ahead of Flynn.
Eleven AM can only mean one thing at McKinnon Swimming Carnival...MANKINNON time! It was back again - the annual dance off between the Year 12 students and the male only staff dance group. Mankinnon were supremely confident after reclaiming the title last year and with some new graduate recruits, they surely had the win in the bag.
However, the Year 12 group of over 100 students put together a stunning routine and were announced winners for 2014. No statement has been released as yet into whether Mankinnon will return in 2015, the boys need some time to reflect and reassess. Well done to Morgan Dooley-Axup for organising the year 12 students so well.
The sun came out late in the afternoon and the rest of the results played out as follows:
· Gilmore - 1101
· Monash - 1041
· Chisholm - 756
· Flynn - 741
Congratulations to Gilmore! Age group champions will be announced at the next General Assembly.
