INSTRUMENTS

It has been another busy fortnight in the Music Department.  Most students who are hiring instruments should have been allocated their relevant instrument.  A reminder to those who have not yet organised payment, instruments cannot be taken home until this is done.

A reminder to students and parents that privately owned instruments that are brought to school should be clearly identified with the relevant student’s name and telephone number.

PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES

Congratulations to Senior Singers for their performance at World Day of Prayer on Friday 7 March at St Johns Anglican Church corner Tucker and Centre Roads.

Congratulations also to the Year 8 Band and String groups who performed at the Year 7 Parent Information Evening on 11 March, 2014. Their opening performance indicates an incredibly high standard that they should be proud of.  Thanks also to James and William Hardy for the incidental music they provided as the parents entered the hall.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Another reminder is to keep 7:00pm on Tuesday 18 March free for the House Music Festival.  The students are preparing a great deal of music for the evening and are looking forward to presenting this to a large audience. We look forward to seeing you then.

Parents and students are invited to the Orchestra Fundraising Concert on Thursday 20 March featuring the McKinnon Orchestra and the Alumni orchestra formed last year.  The venue is Glen Eira Town Hall - corner Hawthorn and Glen Eira Rds, Caulfield.  Tickets are available at the door.  Concert starts at 7:00pm.

Proceeds from the concert will go to fundraising for the Orchestral trip to Iceland and London in November this year.

Munch then Music will start again after the House Music Festival.  Munch then Music is a lunchtime performance series that provides students beyond the beginner standard the opportunity to play in solos, duos and other small groups to a wide audience.  Auditions will take place Friday 21 March with the performance taking place on 28 March. Further queries need to be directed to Mr Kurowski.

McKinnon is hosting the SEVR Senior Band Festival on Wednesday 23 April in the first week of Term 2.  McKinnon will be hosting a 60 piece symphonic Wind Band comprising our own students plus advanced students from other music programs in the region.  They will be working under the direction of internationally recognised conductor Mr Tim Reynish from the Royal Northern College of Music.

A reminder that rehearsal for Symphonic Strings is Wednesday mornings at 7:45am and Ovenden Band Friday mornings at 7:45am.
