Junior School News

Literacy:

Students of the Junior School have been continuing their learning about fairy tales. They are currently in the process of writing their own fairy tale. This is where students have to include an orientation, problem and a resolution.

Numeracy:

In maths students have been continuing their practise in counting up to 100 and understanding the place value links within. Students have been counting collections by being able to group into groups of ten and then counting the ones to work out the total amount within a collection.

Senior School News

In Literacy, students in Senior School have been reading the novel Nanberry by Jackie French. This novel tells a story about the new colony 'at the end of the world' fighting for survival in the late 1700s and a young Indigenous boy Nanberry and the relationship between him and his adopted father, Surgeon John White. During Literacy time, students have completed chapter summaries, comprehension questions and character profiles of the story so far. Students have designed their own fictional character and personality traits that suit the Nanberry timeline and location. They are currently in the process of writing their own narrative using their designed character and the events that happen in Nanberry as inspiration. It is great to see the use of the four sentence types, appositives, and evaluative adjectives in their narratives to add more detail into their writing. Below are some examples of the characters students have created.

Visual Art

Across the last few weeks, the senior and middle school have been creating a landscape using oil pastels. They have produced a wonderful range of landscape pictures by scratching away the black oil pastel. Students also had the opportunity to decorate the art aprons with fabric markers and can now be enjoyed by all the students when working in the art space. The juniors have been working with bubble wrap to make a painting. They have embraced the challenge of cutting out their own shapes. Students used their imagination to make an individual painting using these stamps and a paintbrush.
