New First Nation's Officers at SMC
We are excited to announce that alumni Caitlin Marr (class of 2022) and Ella Berresford (class of 2019), have joined our team as the inaugural First Nations Learning Support Officers this year.
With a vision to make the College Meeting Place a central and welcoming space for the SMC community, the pair are excited to draw on their unique knowledge and skills to support our First Nations students as they progress on their cultural and academic journey.
We can't wait to see what they have planned for our First Nations students in 2023!

Sidney takes the Northern Territory by storm
No two days are the same for alumna Sidney Goram-Aitken, a domestic violence and family lawyer at the North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Practice. From helping clients apply for domestic violence orders and providing legal assistance for parents with custody disputes to running legal education clinics in ‘remote’ communities in the Northern Territory, Sidney’s job regularly sees her navigate the challenges of travel and new working cultures.
‘The hardest part of my job is seeing the mountain of injustices that Aboriginal people face daily. They often have little support services in their communities to assist them and feel they have absolutely nowhere to turn to seek assistance,’ says Sidney, who was formally admitted as a lawyer in August 2022.
‘The most rewarding part [however] is being able to help people and make them aware of their rights.’
