Farewell to Maria Flaherty

Unfortunately, our 5C teacher and Year 5 Team Leader Maria Flaherty is leaving us at the end of the term as she has secured a teaching position much closer to her home. I know that it was a VERY hard decision for Maria to make, and I know that I share all your sentiments when I say that we are very sad to be saying goodbye!

Maria has been a wonderful asset to Valkstone Primary School, and her new school is very lucky to have her joining them. We will miss Maria a lot, but we wish her all the best on this next part of her journey. We look forward to her visiting us at some stage to tell us all about her new adventure!

Welcome back to Steven Yaghmoor!

I know that you will now be wondering who will be taking over teaching 5C next term. We are incredibly lucky to have one of our former teachers, Steven Yaghmoor, stepping into this role.

Steven has taught full time here at Valkstone in the past and also has experience teaching overseas. We are lucky to have a familiar face join us again, especially as he knows our school and students so well. We are also fortunate that he has been able to join us full time for the past few weeks, as he re-familiarises himself with the school. He has started a very thorough handover with Maria, and will be spending a lot of time in the classroom with her prior to the end of term, in order to give the students the most seamless handover possible.

Assembly Feedback

Here at Valkstone, we are passionate about bringing the community back into the school, and one of our most exciting times of the week is our assembly. The Valkstone assembly is student-run, with our Year 6 leaders running it and many students from across the school presenting and speaking throughout.

We would like to increase the number of parents and families attending, and one suggestion that was given was to look into changing the time to a more 'family friendly' time.

We are seeking your input in order to ascertain what time would suit the Valkstone community best, Monday mornings or Friday afternoons.

Could you please take a moment fill in this 1 question survey (super quick!) so that we can make an informed decision about the best time to hold our assemblies. Thanks!
