Foundation Miss Bennett

Literacy:

'BLENDING' has been our biggest target in Foundation over the past two weeks as we have been working on putting the sounds we know into words and blending them together. To practice this we have been working super hard in our daily review, playing with alphabet letters, using the drawing pads and using the magnetic tiles to make words and then sound them out.

Maths:

In maths, we have been focusing on counting from 0-20. In particular, investigating numbers 11, 12, 13 and 15. To help with our learning, students made a Foundation number line to help them identify where numbers sit. They looked at numbers with 'one more' and 'one less'. Students made their own 'flutter' number line for their table to help with their learning.

This week we also broadened our learning of Down Syndrome, for World Down Syndrome Day. To help us understand, we read the book '47 strings'. Everyone was so engaged and had lots of awesome questions.

Grade 1-2 Miss Hayes

Lani - I am lucky because I am flexible

James - I am lucky because I am special.

Daphne - I am lucky because I am lucky.

Arabella - I am lucky because I can draw.

Miss Hayes - I am lucky because I can play netball.

Phoebe - I am lucky because I can play tennis.

Daphne - I am lucky because I can do a backbend.

 Grade 1-2 Miss Hart

What a fun fortnight we have had in Grade 1/2 JH!!

We enjoyed dressing up in green, fun activities, mass and learning new things about St Patrick - our patron saint.

At the end of our St Patrick’s Day celebrations - we spoke about and shared reasons we feel lucky. This activity tied in very nicely to what we have been learning about in The Resilience Project on Gratitude. Check it out!!

On Tuesday, we rocked our craziest/brightest pair of socks in support of World Down Syndrome Day - we learnt some amazing, new things about Down Syndrome and read a great story about a girl named Tessa.

In Maths, we are learning all about time. In our first lesson, we made and decorated analog clocks. In the coming weeks we will be learning about telling the time to the hour, half-past and quarter past/to.

Grade 3-4

This week in grade 3/4, the students enjoyed playing a new game that Mrs Crosbie taught them. It was great to see all the students get involved!

For Inquiry, the students have been learning about rules and laws. They have learnt about democracy and the importance of rules and laws being fair. They have begun creating a class town and will next week need to create fair rules and laws to go with the different community groups and for the whole town.

This week we also went to Tongala primary school and participated in the Victorian national Library Performance. The performance was designed to help us engage with our local library.

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

We have had a busy couple of weeks in the senior class.

Congratulations to the students who sat NAPLAN. It was so pleasing to see them approach the tests with confidence and gave everything their best shot.

In maths, we finished our unit on place value and had some really exciting growth in our understanding. We have started the addition unit and have been enjoying playing addition-based maths games as a warm up. Some of the students are enjoying the challenge of adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.

We have been looking at morphology in spelling, which helps us understand how words change depending on what prefix and suffix they have added to them.

In Inquiry we have been exploring leadership and how bills (laws) are passed in parliament. We recently voted on our student leaders and used some of our knowledge we learnt about voting to help us conduct a fair vote and ensure that every vote counted. Students learned about each leadership area and decided which they would like to nominate themselves to lead.
