Debutante Ball
Congratulations to all who attended the Debutante Ball on Friday, 16 May. The Mayor of Frankston Mr Darrel Taylor and his wife Mrs Jane Taylor, received our debutantes on the night and complimented our students on their beautiful presentation and behaviour.
Our students were a credit to the school and their behaviour was exemplary. It was wonderful to see so many parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents and friends dancing the night away with our Year 11 students.
Congratulations and thank you to Ms Susan McKercher for the organisation of the Debutante Ball. Thank you also to Ms Lisa Pieropan, Ms Sian Nisbet, Mrs Cathy Ramsden and Ms Kirsten Bakker for their contribution to the ball’s success. A special thank you to Mrs Ellen D’Ambra and Mr Con Neratzoglou for introducing the students on the night.
I would like to thank the management and staff of the Brighton International for providing such a wonderful venue for our Debutante Ball. For many of our students, the Debutante Ball is one of the highlights of their time at Frankston High School.
New Refurbished Senior School Centre
We have been privileged to move into our new refurbishment this term. The centre houses the Senior School office, staff area, four new classrooms and breakout areas and a large presentation area. It has been very impressive seeing students working and studying collaboratively and using the large white boards for study and revision. There is a positive and harmonious working culture, and staff and students are very impressed with the facilities – especially considering this has been the only major works program since the Senior School was opened in 1969.
Congratulations to Samantha Molloy - Australian Champion in BMX Titles
Sammie was recently crowned Australian Champion at the BMX Titles, in the 17-24 year age group. Over 5 days of fierce competition, and a crash on the first day of racing, Sammie triumphed and won the event by 2 seconds over her nearest competitor.
Unable to compete in the World Championships due to her Year 12 studies this year, Sammie’s aim is to win the World Championship in 2015. We wish her all the best.
Year 12 Mid Year Exams
Elevate Education through years of research have found that practice exams is the number one statistical difference between top performing and lower performing students. Their research has shown there is a direct relationship between the number of practice papers attempted and student marks.
Year 12 mid year exams will occur from Tuesday, 10 June – Wednesday, 25 June. These will occur in all Unit 3 and 4 studies. Timetables have been distributed to students and sent home to parents.
These exams provide students with the opportunity to hone exam techniques and practices in order to maximise results. Teachers can address areas of concern in student performance and exam technique.

Attendance Policy
As Semester 1 draws to a close, I would like to remind parents and students of the attendance policy in the Senior School. Seven unexcused absences in a study and/or fifteen absences in a study results in an N result for that study.
Students must ensure all absences are annotated by the co-ordinators or office staff on the green absence card in their diary. Students must also ensure their green card is shown to all of their class-room teachers.
In order for the absence to be excused, parents/guardians must provide a note with a specific reason for the absence: illness, funeral etc.
Completion of Work
Students must ensure they have checked with their classroom teachers that they have satisfactorily completed all of their learning outcomes and met the requirements of the Attendance Policy.
All work must be completed by Friday, 6 June 2014.
