Message from Gemma

St Stephen's & St Gabriel's Catholic Primary School's Principal

Dear all families,

I have loved walking through our beautiful spaces - children are displaying such strong learning dispositions - asking questions, following curiosities and being brave learners.

Thankyou to all the families who attend planting night - it was a wonderful night to connect, meet new families and have a general catch up.

MASS

To acknowledge Ash Wednesday, next week, our Year 3-6 students will join our Parish Mass.  Our Prep- Year 2 students will reflect on Ash Wednesday through prayer in Getting Ready to learn. We will begin our Lent period on Tuesday with Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is the day of feasting before Ash Wednesday. It's a day when people enjoy rich, fatty foods and sweet treats, such as pancakes, in preparation for Lent. Pancake Day is on a different day every year, always falling 47 days before Easter Sunday.

If you would like you to join your child/s class to make pancakes for this time please see the times below:

 Victorian Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement

You might have heard in the media that there has been a new enterprise agreement to replace the Victorian Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2018. The new agreement will be confirmed any day now. This will change some of the employment agreements, one that you may notice is the impact to staff out of hours commitment. All educators will receive time in lieu for hours worked in their out of the work week (38 hour week). As a staff we refuse to cancel special occasions such as picnics, camps etc. However we will be giving time in lieu days as a replacement for the extra hours worked. We will be finalising dates and times for time in lieu as events occur. You will notice the day before ANZAC day is a school closure for this reason. We hope you support our want and commitment to continue to hold special events and in turn have school closures to replace this time, we will ensure we try our hardest to make these days the most suitable to families as possible and least disruptive to learning Ie: end of school year.

Enjoy the sunny weekend,

Gemma
