Year Five/Six News

Setting up for success!

Things are off to a flying start here in 5/6 - with a focus on setting up for a successful year in our learning.

In Reading, we have been using our 'Reading is Thinking' voice to visualise, make connections with and leave thinking tracks about the text. In each classroom, we have been reading the novel 'Boy Overboard' by Morris Gleitzman. Students have been navigating through the Reader's Workshop, reading a variety of genres and are beginning to make text responses.

In Writing, students have begun working through the Writer's Workshop. They have created a number of seeds in their Writer's Notebooks and have begun to build them into ideas. This week we focused on narrative writing and how to hone in on details when introducing characters and setting. In Spelling we have been learning about apostrophes.

This Term in Science, we delve into the Earth and Space. We have been learning about how the Earth spins on its axis and revolves around the sun. We are excited to explore this topic further.

We have already had a number of students represent our school at a District Tennis Event. Well done to all students who represented our school with pride.
