Foundation Class

WELCOME TO OUR PREPS

The preps have had a fabulous first week of school! They have settled into the routine of being at school and have been complimented for their excellent manners, behaviour and skills during library, art, and sport. We have really focused on how to be a good listener whilst sitting on the carpet as well as learning about our school values which are Respect, Responsibility and Safety.

The students have enjoyed the experience of Specialist classes, interacting with their peers, making friends, developing their social and language skills and practising their fine motor skills through fun activities.  The development of these skills allows the students to be able to complete tasks such as writing, drawing, holding small items, buttoning clothing, turning pages, eating, cutting with scissors, and using computer keyboards.

The students participated in some fine motor skill rotations this week such as using scissors to practise cutting, writing the alphabet, threading, making patterns with beads and filling and gluing in the start of their name with small torn pieces of paper.  A lot of fun was had!

A couple friendly reminders…

Preps will have a rest day every Wednesday up until Labour Day (Monday March 13th)

We have a couple of students with food allergies in the Prep class. For this reason, where possible, please try to avoid sending nuts and fish (including tinned fish) in your child’s lunchboxes. I appreciate your understanding and thank you for helping me to provide the preps with a safe school environment.

Each year, every prep student is eligible for a free health assessment that may include a vision and hearing screen, and general developmental assessment. This service is provided free of charge but is not compulsory. Your child recently brought home a questionnaire regarding their health and development. If you wish for your child to participate in the School Nursing Program, please complete the questionnaire and return it to school no later than Tuesday 28 February.

It has been lovely getting to know you all this last week and I am happy to clarify any of the information from above if you have any questions. I can not wait to help and watch these lovely preps grow throughout this year.
