From the Deputy Principal

Megan Nertney

A huge welcome to the 2023 school year at Living Waters. Thank you so much for supporting our lovely calm start this year, having your child well prepared and ready to engage in a new year of learning and developing friendships. I have spent a lot of time with our children over the last few weeks and it has been wonderful to see the classrooms are a buzz with learning! It has been such a delight to see the smiles, laughs and children excited to partake in classroom activities. Play times have been an absolute joy, with the children showing the School Values of Love, Service, Courage and Endeavour as they include others in their games.

Our teachers have been so excited to welcome the children both new and returning to school this year. It was wonderful to see so many of you at our welcome to 2023 coffee and cake morning. I hope you enjoyed taking the time to get to know other families in our school. Our school was a hive of activity on Wednesday night at the Welcome BBQ. It was refreshing to see so many families exploring our inviting learning spaces. At the Welcome BBQ we had a Children’s University information session. This year we have a massive 50 children participating in the program. A big thank you to Miss Sharreena and Mariann Ryu for the presentation. If your child is part of the program and you were unable to attend the information session, please get in contact so we can pass on the information.

For the first few weeks of this term our focus value is service. We are keeping the learning space and classroom tidy. As you saw at the BBQ our classroom spaces are impressive and very inviting. We have the child at the centre of all we do. It is important that we build a culture in our school of organization and cleanliness. It is a valuable lesson in life to take responsibility for our actions from the start. Of course, during learning things can get, and they do, get messy but it is important to clean up the mess, we make after we have finished. This could possibly be a good lesson to use at home when it comes to our children’s bedroom.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist in many ways at school, if you are interested in helping with reading in the classrooms, covering books, helping at the canteen, helping on excursions or camps. I know we already have some very keen parents ready to assist. We ask that all volunteers fill out our volunteer pack and have a working with children clearance. Our reception staff will be happy to assist you with this.

We are also looking for volunteers to help organise fundraising events throughout the year with POTS (Parents Organising Terrific Stuff). In previous years we have had Mother’s and Father’s Day breakfasts, sports day café, raffles, carols nights, discos, sock days and many more. If you are interested in being part of the committee, please email me for more information: Megan.nertney@ntschools.net

This year NAPLAN is in Term 1 and the test window dates are Wednesday 15th March to Monday 27th March 2023. We will be sending home information to our Year 3 and Year 5 families next week.

Looking forward to working with you in 2023. We trust that it will be one full of learning, laughing, playing and growing.
