Busselton Camp

What a great weekend was had by all at the Busselton Camp. Everyone was very social, helpful and seemed to enjoy themselves.

I would really like to thank all the staff who attended and made it such a great success, for a weekend away like this the planning starts well in advance and affects all areas of the College.

I would sincerely like to thank Heidi Armstrong who did most of the planning and organising over many months. Well done.

Weekly Activities

Monday night saw the second sewing class run by Ms Wellington, the students were all engaging and happy to learn a few tricks and culminating in some actual machine sewing. Very positive feedback and a great initiative from Ms Wellington.

Monday nights boys’ basketball suffered a rare loss, while the girls had mixed success once again.

On Wednesday evening Mr Jones ran basketball after prep time, and it was a major hit with the students. Staff reported that this was supported by most students and the competitive streak in many students was very evident. Great work and well done.

Residential Requirements

It is a requirement of students to have two sets of sheets for their beds, this is so new sheets can be placed on the beds on sheet changing days, which occur every second week. Students are reporting to staff that they do not have two sets of sheets.  Can parents follow up with your son/ daughter and check they have two sets please.

Karen our amazing laundry lady is faced with over 60 sets of sheets every second Tuesday (imagine facing that) to work her way through over the next few days, so the sheets can’t be expected to be washed and returned in the same day.

Laundry

Can I also just remind all students, when you place your laundry in the appropriate baskets in the laundry, can you please check your pockets for objects. This week Karen found a heavy piece of metal that was a practice weld from up at Trades in a pocket of some trousers. If this had been missed by Karen, I am sure it would have caused a lot of damage to the industrial washing machine.

Inappropriate Clothing

We also have been asking several students to change their shirts and singlets in the evenings as they are advertising inappropriate designs, logos and slogans etc. These include alcohol and other branding, which are perfectly ok in a private home style dwelling but not for a communal school residential setting like ours. Thank you for your support on this subject.

Dorm Awards

This week the cleaning ladies have started the Residential Dorm Awards. The ladies select the student with the cleanest room for the week overall.  Those students nominated get a certificate and a chocolate bar as a reward for effort. This is a small reward but is great recognition for assisting the hard-working cleaners by doing the right thing.

Just a reminder that next weekend is the closed weekend, and we would ask that students are collected by around 5.00pm at the latest on Friday 3rd March. If this is an issue can you please contact me to negotiate a time. We are here onsite from 3.30pm on Monday 6th March to take duty of care with your child after that time.
