Principal Report

Welcome to 2023

Welcome to the first Belmore School Newsletter for 2023.  Our fortnightly newsletter is an important means of connecting with our school community – particularly the parents and carers of our students.  Please take the time to read the newsletter and take note of the important information or dates included, reflect on the wonderful programs or activities outlined and take pride in the achievements of our students which are highlighted.

Important or additional information required to be sent in a more timely manner will be sent via a BSC email - BSC being an acronym for Belmore School Community.

Our students were all very happy to return to school, refreshed and ready to learn after their five week Christmas holiday break.  The first days of our school year are spent settling the students into their new classes, supporting them get to know their teachers, assistants and class mates and introducing them into new programs.  The therapy team have been extremely supportive of this process, updating all student profiles and ensuring all students  have the correct equipment to best assist them in their classrooms and programs.

Welcome to our new Students and Staff

I extend a very warm welcome to our new students and families joining our Belmore School Community in 2023; we are honoured you have selected Belmore for your child to attend.  I also officially welcome our new staff members who join our magnificent team this year:

  • Brianna Reaney - PLC1/2 Class Teacher
  • Anne Connell - SLC8 Class Teacher
  • Louisa Munro - Speech Pathologist
  • Troy Holland - Music Therapist
  • Kate Gourlay - Programs Support ES
  • Carole Arifovic - Administration Support

We have wonderful staff at Belmore School who are as enthusiastic as I am to ensure that our students have the best programs and learning opportunities we can possibly offer.

Capital Works Program

Our new Learning Centre is nearing completion with finishing touches currently being finalised.  With all going to plan the move into the new learning centre will take place on MONDAY 6 MARCH.  As previously communicated, the School Council has approved this date to be pupil free to enable staff the time to properly set up the new learning spaces - classrooms, library, sensory room and bathrooms, to ensure the move is a seamless experience for our students. Please organise alternate care for your child on Monday 6 March.

Our Belmore School Council will be hosting a social gathering for parents, carers and staff on Monday 27 March to enable our school community to view the new Learning Centre, following 2 years in the development, and experience a taste of what our renovated school will provide for all our students throughout the year.  Please save this date, with further details being shared following our School Council meeting next week.

Meet the Teacher Meetings

Our class teachers are currently organising and conducting 'Meet the Teacher' meetings; this year to be held via phone or webex throughout the second and third week of the school year.  Developing a united partnership between our teachers, therapists and parents and carers is a priority for Belmore as it enables consistency between home and school and strengthens our support for our students in achieving a successful school year.

While parents and carers are encouraged to communicate via your child's Belmore diary, email or phone, please be aware that teachers are always happy to make time to meet with you in person or online if there is an important matter you wish to discuss.

2023 - a year of opportunity

At our first meeting this year I highlighted with staff the opportunities beckoning for Belmore this year.  We all feel genuine pride in having the opportunity to contribute to the development of our new school, laying the foundation of excellence for future generations of Belmore students.
