Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

I hope you have all had a wonderful week. Well, Collingwood are certainly keeping me on the edge of my seat - I feel like we may be a dark horse for the Grand Final!!  I maybe calling it a bit early but I’m feeling a little confident!

Facebook, Instagram & our Website

We have had lots of activities going on both in and out of the classroom. Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages to see all the wonderful learning taking place!  Don’t forget to follow us if you don’t already do so.

As I shared with you last week, we are updating our Website. This should be up and running in the next few weeks. I am looking forward to seeing the end result, which will showcase our wonderful school.

Illness and the impact at school

We are continuing to feel the effects and impact of COVID throughout the school, mixed with the added layer of our normal flu season. We have seen larger than normal numbers of students (and teachers) absent due to sickness. Please continue to monitor for signs and symptoms and keep children at home to avoid the spread of illness’. We all need to take care and look after each other. Summer is just around the corner! Our next delivery of  Rapid Antigen Tests have arrived and they will be given out this week.

Foundation ‘camp’ experience

Our Foundation students are staying back at school tonight for their "Camp at School" experience. They were allowed to come to school in their casual clothes today and are looking forward to some special afternoon tea to be followed by an African drumming incursion. The children will be picked up at 5.00pm (Parents are asked to come to the office).  We look forward to sharing some photos on our socials and in the newsletter next week.

Coonawara Farm Resort - Year 5/6 Camp

Tracey and I did a road trip yesterday to have a tour of the Year 5/6 camp for this year.  As it is a new camp for us it is a requirement for us to do a pre-visit. The camp site is amazing and I am sure the children will have an absolutely fantastic time. Camps are such a great experience for our children and the activities chosen will keep them very busy!

"Assumption of Mary" Mass at St Brigid’s Church

On Monday, our Year 4-6 students will walk to St Brigid’s Church to celebrate the "Assumption of Mary". It is also a bit of a sad occasion - this will be Fr Hoang’s last Mass with us, as he has been transferred to the Camberwell Parish.  He will be missed as he has spent a lot of time with us, both during his training to be a priest and after he was ordained. We wish him all the very best at his new parish.

Year 5/6 (Parent Run) Skate World Social Night - Friday 19 August

Just a reminder for our 5/6 parents to purchase tickets for the 5/6 social night - rollerskating and pizza! The tickets can be purchased via CDFpay.

Foundation to Year 4 Disco - Friday 9 September

Our Foundation to Year 4 disco is planned for Friday 9th September.  Tickets are onsale via CDFpay.

Father's Day Breakfast - Friday 2nd September

Help wanted - We need some 3/4 parents to help set up our Father's Day Breakfast. Please let Vanessa W or Tracey in the office know if you can help out. A very big thank you to Vanessa who has been working behind the scenes planning and organising a breakfast for the special dads, grandads and special men in our children’s life.

Father's Day Stall - Thursday 1st September

Our Year 1/2 parents are running our Fathers Day Stall - Thursday 1st September 9am - 12 midday with a make up day on Friday 2nd September. Thank you to Tania and Sharon who have been working behind the scenes getting the gifts ready for our dads.

Parents and Friends

As with all committees, there comes a time when our members are ready to move on and this means we need some new people to take over the role. Jen and Jess  have done an amazing job coordinating our parent run events. Both Jen and Jess have been on the committee for as long as I have been at St Brigid’s, but it is now time for them to focus on family and career.

We want new parents to take on the coordinator role for our Parents and Friends. This role is done in conjunction with our Level Reps. Please come and see me  or speak to Jen or Jess if you would like more information.

Aidan Donnelly

As we congratulated Tess last week, we now have to say a big congratulations to Aidan who has made it into the Victorian School Sports team for Squash. Aidan goes to Perth to compete in the September school holidays.

Take care and stay safe.

Yours in partnership.
