Clay

During Term 3, all classes had the opportunity to explore, create and decorate items made of clay. To begin, all students had a familiarisation lesson that focused on how to warm up the clay, manipulate it and shape the clay into different forms. These pancakes, slabs and pinch pots, form the basis of many structural pieces and are vital for students to learn how to make.

Prep and JLC students began by making an owl by cutting and folding the clay and using different varieties of pasta to make imprints and patterns. JLC also made pinch pots, while Prep made awesome dinosaur fossils.

The Year 3/4 students used the slab construction method to make a fish, on which they also used different varieties of pasta to make imprints and patterns. They also used clay tools to make marks and lines and add detail.

The students in Year 5/6 used both the slab construction and pinch pot methods to create their sculptures which included toadstools, food and drinks.

All these pieces will be on display at the upcoming Art Show on Thursday 1st December.

Kind regards
