 MAD Showcase 2022 Winners!!!

This week our St. Joseph's STEM team took part in the STEM MAD (Make a Difference) showcase 2022. Over 150 schools attended. The students applied their inquiry knowledge to explore real-life issues and practise purposeful problem-solving. Each student's project aimed to make a local or global difference. The students had to present their awards to not only a panel of judges but also several leading people from universities and STEM-related industries.

We are proud to announce that not only did we WIN, but we also won several categories! The most for any school that attended the day. The STEM Team will now attend the Nationals on Tuesday the 6th of September.

  • Maddie S and Ava R won the Innovation in Communication Award from MACS for their ecosystem project
  • Lily M won the Curators Award for her Girls in STEM project
  • Abi Sanderson was a finalist for her Life on Mars investigation
  • Luella won the best innovation for conservation award from Zoo’s Victoria.

What the judges said:

* Several teams created impressive prototypes

* The students went above and beyond!

St Joseph's Science Week

This week we are also celebrating St Joseph's Science Week. This is a week when students explore different scientific foci and are encouraged to use their science skills and dispositions to be curious about our world. The school theme for National Science Week in 2022 is Glass: More than meets the eye. It is based on the UN International Year of Glass. It will celebrate the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens to optical fibre to glassware in labs – plus investigating glass as a part of our sustainable future.
