Wear It Purple Day

Wear it Purple Day - Friday 26th  August.

It’s a single day in the year where people can show their support, create a safe space and raise awareness for the LGBTQ+ community. The 2022 theme is to start a conversation and to keep it going.

Students and staff will be encouraged to wear purple on Friday 26th August and bring a gold coin donation to fundraise for the amazing work that the www.wearitpurple.org             do, including providing resources, training and educational tools for young people.

Wear it Purple Day started in 2010 because of a global response to bulling and harassment towards LGBTQ+ teens. The day was first stared buy two adolescents Katherine Hudson and Scott Williams. One of whom was in high-school at the time and got peers to also start the conversation.

If anyone is questioning or struggling with self-identity, please see one of the wellbeing staff in the wellbeing office and for everyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ be proud of who you are!

To get involved and help to start the conversation, the Diversity Group meets fortnightly on Monday. Our next meeting will be Monday 8th August.

Carnival Day

Plans are underway for Maffra SC’s Carnival Day, to be held on Wednesday 12th October. The purpose of this event will be to fulfil our student leadership goal of improving connectedness and to raise awareness and action on ways to be connected in a fun way. The Carnival Day will also align with the Wellington 5 Ways to wellbeing as students will be able to experience the different ways to wellbeing: Connect, Be active, Keep learning, Be aware, Help others. Year 11 and Year 12 students will be running a range of stalls for all students to be involved.
