Principal's Post

Dear Families,

Working from home is no fun!

Having COVID for the second time is no fun!

Missing our students at school, especially Yr 5 and 6 netball, football, Confirmation Reflection Day and Yr 1 Mass yesterday just rubs salt into the wound.

Thank you to the many families who have sent messages of support to myself and especially to Carmel and the other staff who have kept the high quality education and organisation for your children over the past week.

I'm looking forward to getting back, especially for our closure day on Thursday, when, as a staff we have a guest from the Respectful Relationships initiative which is part of the Health, Wellbeing and Specialist Services Branch of the Department of Education and Training, to lead the day on this program.

Bookings for students can be made with Camp Australia for the day, as the school will be closed for students.

Congratulations to our Year Six, Five and Four students for the brilliant effort you all made to ensure that the Mini Mission Fete was such a success. Our Education in Faith page has further information from the student reporting team.

Book Week Celebrations organised by our Year Six Library Leaders

This year we are exploring, 'Dreaming with Eyes Open' and having a Book Parade at 9:00 on Monday 22 August. Remember - We are encouraging all students to be creative and inexpensive. You can only use things you have at home to dress up as a book character!

Students simply come to school dressed as a character from a book they know or have read and if possible, bring the book along to show too.

Other activities are being organised at some lunchtimes throughout the week.

ART SHOW.... The Story Begins Here....

This year's art show is in full swing. The theme for this year is 'The Story Begins Here...' Every art piece is based on a book that the children have read and responded with an art piece. We would love to see as many people as possible visit our art show.

Here is all you need to know:

When: Wednesday 31st August - Monday 5th September

Wednesday: GRAND OPENING 2:30-3pm

Where: Reynolds Community Centre

Cost: $10 entry per family - this entitles you to as many visits as you would like while the art show is open. A Family ticket covers all family members- grandparents, aunties and uncles! Please bring cash only and pay on your first visit. (This helps cover the extra costs for Art Show materials)

Fathers' Day Breakfast - Friday 2 September

Save the date dads and for those who are like dads to us. Our wonderful P & F are catering for this stand up event which will also provide you with an opportunity to view your children's Artwork at the Art Show!

Year 7, 2024 Enrolment (current Yr 5s) at Catholic Schools applications close on 19 August

Please note, ALL applications must be made to the Secondary Schools. While we will support any applications you make, we are not involved in the process at all.

Applications for government secondary schools are due in by the end of April next year.

COVID Update

We are currently experiencing our largest absentee rate due to COVID. Please continue to be very vigilant in measures to help prevent the spread of the virus. I endorse the recommendation by MACS for all students to wear a mask.

We have converted some of our in person events to online events to help prevent the spread of the virus and keep community members safe and able to learn.

We may need to restrict parent access to the school site if local cases at St James continue to rise.

 In  Brief:

  • Just a reminder that if a household member has tested positive to Covid-19 children in grades 3-6 must wear a mask at school and we encourage students in P-2 to wear a mask also. All students must return a negative RAT each morning for one week to be able to attend school and not be showing any symptoms.
  • Next Monday we will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption with a whole school Mass at 12:00pm.
  • Many thanks to the parents who can come along to help with Art Show preparation: Friday @ 9:00am - and enjoy a cuppa together....

Have a great week!
