Smoking Ceremony

Last Monday 18th August, Carnegie Primary School were lucky enough to host Uncle Steve Ulula Parker to perform a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony. Uncle Steve brought with him a wealth of knowledge about the history and traditional culture of our local area, including Indigenous words in the Boonwurrung language that he shared with students. The school have also purchased 4 sets of clapping sticks made by Uncle Steve, each formed from a different type of wood and carved with traditional symbols to represent our local geography.

I think all who were in attendance would agree that this was a special and memorable experience!
