SET PLANNING AND SUBJECT SELECTIONS

Our Subject Expo and Senior Pathways Evening on 3rd August were very successful events and sparked much conversation among students, families and teachers. These conversations are vital in student subject selections.  The following selection processes have been occurring in these recent weeks:

  • Year 8 students select two elective subjects for Year 9. These subjects could be full year subjects, or semester only. Students choosing all semester subjects have the opportunity to experience four new subjects across the year. For those who have already identified great passion, they may choose two focused areas to develop for the year.
  • Year 9 students who have had the year to trial and taste electives, now choose two subjects to focus on for the whole of Year 10. It is very helpful for Year 9s to look ahead at senior subjects (Handbook can be found on our website) to determine which subjects support a pathway into senior.
  • Year 10s have just completed their SET Planning interviews (Wed 24th, Thurs 25th August) with a SET Planning Team teacher, their parent/carer and themselves. This 20 minutes of discussion was their final stage of setting their timetable for their two year course.
  • For students selecting external VET courses, please remember to complete all paperwork as outlined at your SET Planning interview.

I wish to thank all teachers involved in the Subject Expo, Senior Pathways Evening and SET Planning for the many extra hours invested in assuring student success at St Mary’s. Thank you as well to those parents who have prioritised these events for their students.

TERM 3 REPORTS

This term will see interim reports being issued to families. The interim report is an indication of your child’s progress at this point into the semester. As always, the report will use a scale rating to indicate progress in the areas of academic achievement and work / organisation practices. Reports can be accessed via the Parent Portal, on the Friday afternoon of Week 10.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MUSICAL STUDENTS AND STAFF

I would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful cast, crew, and production team for the endless hours of time they have invested in such a showcase of talent for our St Mary’s community. For the students, countless hours have occurred after the school day, into the evenings and over the weekend. I commend the commitment of these students who have still honoured their academic requirements of completing homework, assessment and exams throughout the year. For teachers, thank you for juggling two full-time jobs at once. You have all managed to continue your daily teaching, drafting, feedback and meeting QCAA deadlines amongst the hours of preparation required to deliver an absolutely brilliant musical. We appreciate your generosity and in making a difference in our community.
