Attendance
To be successful in learning, engagement is critical and attendance still remains a significant key indicator of success at school. Presently, we only have about 54% of our students attending at or above 90% of the time and as you can see from the graphic below, this has a significant impact on individual learning and the ability of each student to reach their potential.
I would ask parents and carers to challenge their young person next time they seek to have a day off school as to whether it is really necessary – does it appear to be the same day every week or are they always missing Maths or English? Individual student attendance is available through the parent portal.
Staying Focussed
Term 3 is notorious for seeming like it is going on forever, especially around Week 7 (this week) to Week 9. This is because the majority of students are heavily immersed in assessments in multiple subjects. The exception would be the Year 12s who have largely finished their IA3 assessments and are now focussed on revision and study for their external exams - a whole other type of stress. Keeping focussed can be difficult with distractions everywhere to be found. Right now is the time for students to pull out their goals they set at the beginning of the term and the routines established to ensure that they get to where they want to be. Are you on track or do you need to refocus and re-energise - what does that look like?
It is only 3 weeks to the end of term with the reality of 2 weeks off after that surely enough motivation to keep going -you’re nearly there.
Year 10 SET Planning
Currently we are in the middle of our Year 10 SET Planning which is an exciting time for our Year 10s as they consider the pathway they will choose for the next two years that will set them up for success. This year we have changed how we do SET Planning with many senior teachers now involved in the process. This has involved significant training from Rebecca Ambrose our Careers Counsellor. I would also like to thank all staff involved for giving their time so freely to assist students to achieve outcomes that will see them reach their potential.
