YEAR 7 NEWS…
In Week 7 we have been fortunate enough to attend camp at Echo Creek, Tully. This was a wonderful experience for the Year 7 students and staff over the three days. Students were involved in a variety of activities that were very different to the normal classroom activities students are used to at St Mary’s. The camp always has many challenges that require the support of peers and teachers in the different activities that take place. It was fantastic to see so many students trying their best in using teamwork and encouragement within their groups to achieve personal and group objectives. I would like to personally thank all the teachers and staff who attended the camp to support the Year 7 students. In our next College newsletter, we will have student recounts on their time at Echo Creek.
St Mary’s Day
Last week our annual St Mary’s day was help with the blessing of the renovated Hugh O’Brien Centre. Many students were involved in the day through participation of activities and performing at our concert. It does great courage and determination to be able to perform to such a large audience especially as the youngest members of our college. I congratulate and thank all students involved in making the day a success.
TCS Athletics
Congratulations to all those students who participated in TCS Athletics in Week 5. Many students in Year 7 were selected for the team and have competed this week at Peninsula trials. We look forward to hearing of their success at these trials.
Musical
A huge congratulations to all students involved in the musical. Year 7 students travelled to CPAC on Thursday to watch the wonderful production put together by a dedicated teaching staff. The performance was firs class and a credit to the hard-working performers we have at St Mary’s. Congratulations on such a wonderful performance.
Assessment
We are nearing the end of term quickly. Please take this time to go through your child’s assessment calendar and make sure they are meeting the deadlines. Week 8 and 9 and most heavy with assessment taking place in those weeks. If you have any concerns about meeting these deadlines due to illness or travel, please contact your classroom teacher at your earliest convenience so accommodations can be made. Students should be doing around 1.5 hours of homework each night to keep consistency with their subjects and achieve the best academic result possible.
