STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Anna took interest in dancing at the age of 8 when she heard a beautiful tango, “La Cumparsita”, performed by a string quartet.
She immediately fell in love with this musical composition and wanted to learn to dance to it.
This spark of interest resulted in Anna beginning her dance journey by learning at a local dance studio, the Star Ballroom in Bentleigh. Here she discovered many more beautiful dances in the Ballroom and Latin American styles, but tango is still her favourite to this day.
She learns from 2 of Australia’s best DanceSport coaches, Karla Gerbes & Matthew Rooke who themselves were Australian and International Champions.
When the COVID pandemic struck it didn’t stop Anna’s passion, drive and determination. She did not give up and kept doing dance lessons on zoom, working harder than ever before. Anna even got to participate in several International Online Dance competitions together with many dancers from all over the World.
Since the pandemic has eased and dance studios have re-opened Anna has continued to work hard, and it is all paying off with her dancing skills improving immensely and achieving great results in competitions.
This year Anna has moved up to the next age group, Junior, 13-15 years old, now competing against older competitors brings even more exciting challenges.
In the future Anna’s dancing goal is to represent Australia at the World’s most prestigious competition, the Blackpool Open Dance Festival in England and eventually start teaching kids just like her the skills and joy of dancing.
