Coles Opening Event

On Thursday, the 17th of June, Muniira, Camelia, Jasna and I went to Coles Local, because Coles was donating $5000 to Fitzroy primary school’s kitchen garden program.

Coles Local was an old store that they renovated and added new products including an oil refill, a fresh pasta station, an orange juicer, a make-your-own smoothie mix station, a self-slicing bread machine, a dessert section and a coffee grinder.

When we got there, we were greeted by James, the store manager and were shown around the store. James let us use the orange juicer and we each got a bottle of very tart orange juice for free. He also gave me a black sesame mochi and Muniira a vanilla macaron. The mochi was very cold, but when I left it for a while, it was amazing. Then we filled up bottles of cleaning products. After that, I got to use the bread-slicer and it was very fun.

At the end of the tour, we went to the front of the store to receive the cheque. Camelia and the professional photographer took a bunch of photos and then we went back to school.

My favourite part was using the orange juicer because I liked watching the oranges fall into the machine. Overall it was an amazing experience. I can’t wait to see what we do with the money.

On the 17th of June, the new Coles Local opened on 15-103 Johnston Street, Fitzroy. Fitzroy Primary school was lucky enough to be gifted $5000 for the kitchen garden program.

Two teachers and two students (myself and Ivy with teachers Camelia and Jasna) were invited to the store to receive a giant cheque. When we arrived, we were greeted by the store manager, James, and given a tour.

We got to make our own orange juice using their new juicing machine and fill up hygiene bottles like shampoo and handwash in their refilling station. There were many reusable services such as an oil and of course the cleaning bottle refills.

They had many fresh products like pasta, cheese, and fruit. They even had a smoothie making section. We got to partake in slicing bread using a new bread cutting machine. We also got to try free macarons and mochi too.

They had recyclable and reusable products and even the staff shirts were 65% made from recycled plastic bottles.

Our tour ended an hour later, and we were directed to the front to take photos with the huge cheque.

To top it all off, they have also given us aprons for the classes to use in kitchen garden cooking sessions.

My favourite part of the whole experience was the juicer, it gave me a bit of an insight of how the store has been improved.
