Middle School

From the Head of Middle School

This week students have chosen their activity for our next round of Values and Christian Service (VACS) clubs. These clubs give everyone a chance to try something new and different. It is perfectly timed to run on Wednesdays, in the middle of the week. All students should wear House sport uniform for the next four weeks on Wednesday. Thanks to our staff who are leading programs that they have an interest and expertise in. The list of clubs that students could choose from are:

  • Service learning for Year Sevens at the Scout camp
  • Building at the Agriculture Centre
  • Nature club – exploring the natural spaces around the school.
  • Art – painting
  • Chess and board games
  • Drone club – learning to fly and program a drone.
  • Photography and Photoshop
  • Volleyball
  • AFL
  • Archery
  • Fishing
  • Textiles
  • Gift making
  • Cooking
  • Gov Hack – using data
  • Learn to row
  • Mountain biking

As you can see there is something for everyone and the hardest part is choosing what to do!

Cold Weather

At assembly this week students were reminded to keep warm and dress appropriately now the weather is getting cooler. Students can layer with the school jumper and blazer. Please be aware the GSG hoodie is not part of the school uniform during the day. Students also need to avoid puddles around the school, so they don’t have wet feet for large parts of the day. Hopefully, common sense will prevail.

Hospitality

The Year Nine Hospitality students followed a design brief to plan and make low sugar, high water, and high vitamin and mineral mocktails as part of their studies about the six nutrients.  Then they made sweet shortcrust pastry, homemade custard, and used a selection of fruit to demonstrate a dish that contained each of the six nutrients – a delicious fruit flan.

As the whole school aims to reduce rubbish ending up in landfill, these Middle School students made waxi-wraps to use in their lunch boxes, instead of using plastic cling wrap, zip lock bags, tin foil, and other unnecessary wrapping.
