Principal's Message

Liam Buckley

Dear Families

This week we hold many special people in our hearts and prayers. Globally we pray for peace and understanding. Closer to home we are thankful for the opportunities that we have and the wonderful people and places that make us happy. Congratulations to our wonderful Year 3/4 students and their teachers for celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday. We also pray for our wonderful grandparents and are so grateful for those who could celebrate Grandparents' Day with us.

Thank you parents....

We have had such support and help from so many parents this week, it's simply overwhelming. Thank you for all the time and talent and support for our beautiful school. Huge thanks to the P&F and Class Reps (check out upcoming events on P&F page).

Scholastic Book Fair

Next week we have the Scholastic Book in the hall from 8.30am - 9am and 3.30pm - 4pm everyday.

Pyjamas, Prayers & Teddy Bears

Wednesday evening was a beautiful gathering of Foundation and Year 1 children and parents. The session was superbly put together by Mrs Keely and facilitated with Miss D and Mrs O'Brien. It was a cute and contemporary way of engaging our youngest students with the notion of prayer and gratitude and a relationship with God.

Grandparents' Day

We welcomed so many Grandparents (and special friends) to school today and it was magical. I received an email from a grandparent that sums up the day beautifully...

'Dear Mr Buckley,

I was fortunate to attend Grandparents’ Day at St Joseph’s today. From the time I walked through the gate when I was greeted by two polite and mature senior students I knew this was an event that had been carefully planned. It was an amazing occasion and I thoroughly enjoyed the activities, entertainment, and morning tea. I received two beautifully written personal profiles from my grandsons and the vocabulary, spelling and illustrations reflected painstaking planning and editing. I loved the game of bingo which was a very clever way to involve grandparents/special friends in conversation and the ‘cut and paste’ activities a fantastic way to hone skills of the young and not-so-young. In the hall we were treated to a well rehearsed song before a delicious morning tea, which was the culmination of a memorable morning. Could you please convey my appreciation to your wonderful teachers and assistant staff. What an incredibly dedicated team of professionals with limitless enthusiasm. Watching them work with the students demonstrated how well they know each child and how they care about all aspects of their education.' (Deborah)

Reconciliation

Our Year 3/4 students celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation yesterday with Fr David and Fr James. I would like to thank Jenny Keely, Gai Cooke and Chris Kelliher for the preparation and while juggling NAPLAN and the school review! Fr David was very pleased and complimentary!

X Country

What an amazing day for our Cross Country Team on Friday last week. Thank you to Mr Mutimer for training and organising the team and to all the parents who came to cheer on our runners. The team did an amazing job and coming 3rd overall and winning the 'percentage' competition (smaller school comp). Our stronger runners will progress to the Beachside event on June 1st. Well done to all the students who represented St Joseph's so well in their races and in the way they supported the team.

School Review

Last week we had two external school reviewers who spent Wednesday and Thursday in school looking at all aspects of how we operate. The initial feedback was very positive and it was acknowledged that we have a wonderful school. There are areas in which we need to improve and we will share the report with you as soon as we receive it. Thank you to all the parents who chatted with the reviewers.
