Important Reminder:

Prep Parents Survey

Just a reminder to our 2021 Prep Families about completing the survey on the  DPV Health Transition Resource. DVP Health respect that it’s a difficult time for many families at the moment, and no pressure is intended. However if you have the time they are very keen to get your feedback.

At the start of term 1, Prep families at PPPS received DPV Health Transition Resource packs. They were passed out to families at your child’s Parent Partnership afternoon. PPPS thought the Transition Resource pack was informative and well presented

It provided information on:

DVP Health would appreciate parent feedback on the resource pack. Could you please let them know your thoughts by completing this two minute survey? Your time will help make future resources more informative, relevant and engaging.

DPV Health is a not-for-profit organisation that offers exceptional health care services to people of all ages.

If any families missed receiving a copy of the pack, please contact me and I will get one sent home in your child’s bag.

Thank you in anticipation.

MUSIC - Mr Stubberfield

The Music program at Plenty Parklands Primary School aims to promote appreciation of music, and to equip students with an understanding of the fundamental elements of music through the playing of instruments, singing, movement and play. Seen here are year 1 students exploring pitch (high/low sounds) and rhythm (short/long sounds) through play, using glockenspiels to compose melodies matching the snakes and ladders on their game board.

In later year levels the students have the opportunity to learn new techniques on a number of instruments including ukulele, guitar, keyboard and drums through the Musical Futures program.

Visual Arts at Plenty Parklands Primary School

The Visual Arts program at Plenty Parklands Primary School, encourages the development of imagination, creativity and skills in students, by exploring concepts and experimenting with a range of art forms. Students’ ideas are inspired by themes studied in the classrooms, books, artworks, personal experiences, observations and feelings about themselves and their world. In our art room there are no right or wrong ideas, and each lesson aims to give students a chance to experiment and play with creative concepts as we value and foster imagination, creativity and original thinking.

Congratulations Sonny Van Der Poel (5-4). The TDF Kids Art Awards WINNER!

In March, The Design Files launched the TDF Kids Art Awards – an online art competition which was open to all Australian children aged 16 years and under. Entrants were asked to create an artwork in any medium, based on the theme ‘Australia’, to be judged by three amazing artists: Ken DoneBeci Orpin, and Reko Rennie! With 1300 entries they chose 5 winners from each age group. The five winning artists are each being awarded a massive $2000 thanks to presenting partner, Honan.  All of the entry fees have been directly donated to Children’s Ground – an incredible First Nations-led organisation that works with entire communities over 25 year periods to make real and lasting change

Plenty Parklands Primary School year 5 student, Sonny Van Der Poel (5-4) submitted an artwork which he completed in Visual Art and has won first place in the Age 8-10 category.

Congratulations Sonny! Your artwork is fabulous, and we are so thrilled for you.

Victorian High Ability Program – Mathematics Masterclass

At the end of last term, three of our Year 5 students attended a Masterclass session at Mill Park Heights PS. Jeanette L, Michael H and Aiden N worked with students from other schools who participated in the Term 1 Mathematics VHAP sessions to solve an Escape Room Challenge that incorporated the code breaking skills they had investigated in their sessions.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Plenty Parklands Primary School is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding  students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 17 September 2021.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc
