PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

We were so pleased to welcome all students onsite on Friday. Congratulations everyone on doing your best during remote learning. Well done to families who have juggled working from home and their child’s remote learning; you deserve a Principal’s Award! Well done to families who supervised their child’s learning, while being under the enormous pressure of not earning a wage during lockdown; you too deserve an Award. There are so many different family situations and yet, we have had huge, sustained support from families and high levels of engagement from students across the board. Thank you all.
Thank you also to our staff; teaching, support and administrative. Once again, everyone has played an important role in providing continued learning opportunities for our kids.
It seems such a long time ago, but it was terrific that we had the opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day. We were lucky because we had these happy faces, and many like them, during the day to help kids decide which present their mother would enjoy most. The funniest part is when their own children come to purchase and the mum had to pretend to be very busy at the other end of the counter. Luckily our dad didn’t have that dilemma. Thank you to these and the other willing helpers who, once again, made it possible for children to buy a small gift for someone special in their life.
As you know, the school has received exciting news with $5.4 million in funding to update and modernise part of our school. As with all projects, a percentage will be needed to pay all the associated costs, including architect’s fees, bringing temporary relocatable/s on site to house classes if needed, demolition of any current building, and, of course, a project contingency allowance. We want to make sure that we use this money to provide the best possible outcome for our kids and their learning environment. Soon we will send out a short electronic survey to get some feedback on ideas and to seek your ideas. We would really appreciate your input.
Special thanks to our Junior School Councillors who, supported by Ms Nixon, Mrs Azzopardi, Ms Seidel and volunteers from our Coffee and Chat group, are busying organising our Fun Crazy Color Day for Wednesday, June 23 (last week of school). It will be a fun day for our students, and staff of course, however sadly due to restrictions, we will not be able to invite parents and members of our community. You will have to make your own fun day!
Message from the Victorian Chief Health Officer
This week we received a message from the Victorian Chief Health Officer.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank students, staff, teachers, parents, and carers for your cooperation during this period of increased COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria.
As all students in regional Victoria and year 11 and 12 students in metropolitan Melbourne return to on site learning, students and staff should feel reassured that, with the additional health and safety controls currently in place, it is safe for them to return and enjoy the important benefits of doing so.
Throughout the pandemic, Victorian schools have rapidly and successfully adapted to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, using COVIDSafe principles by reinforcing good behaviours, creating safe environments, modifying activities, and responding quickly to COVID-19 risk.
I am confident that with COVIDSafe plans in place, alongside our ability to quickly identify and respond to cases, eligible students and staff can return safely to school premises.
