Principal's News

Good Morning St Brigid's - How are you?

Every morning, in 1/2R, we sing Good Morning to each other, our teacher and any special visitors we have in the classroom. It is a time when we practise our social skills like maintaining eye contact with the person we are talking to. It is our way of putting a smile on the dial of everyone who enters into our classroom and making it a welcoming environment. When we sing our song we personalise it for our visitors, making sure to use adjectives in front of their names. For example “Good Morning Amazing Tracey, how are you?”. If you feel you need to be cheered up make sure to ask 1/2R to sing good morning to you!

Dear Parents and Friends

We have been so lucky with the weather - mainly beautiful autumn days (with a slight wind chill!). It is lovely to see and hear the children enjoying themselves and each other's company outside.

I hope that all the mothers, grandmothers and aunts had a wonderful Mothers Day on Sunday. The children were so excited with the gifts they purchased and the bags they decorated to give to their mums on their special day.

LOTE Update

As you will be aware following my announcement in our Fortnightly Bulletin on 29th April that Mrs Che Soon Lee had resigned, we then undertook a recruitment process for a new LOTE Teacher.  Miss Michelle Parks was appointed and was due to commence with us this week.  Sadly due to family circumstances Miss Parks has had to decline our offer.  As you can imagine Korean LOTE teachers are not that easy to find.  I am meeting with the School Advisory Council next week where our LOTE program will be discussed.  We will continue to provide our Korean LOTE program until the end of this term, and we will keep you informed of any changes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Welcome to Miss Trisha Beamish

Trisha Beamish commenced with us this week as part of our teaching team in 4F.  Trisha will teach 4F on Thursday and Fridays.  I'm sure you will all join me in welcoming Trisha to St Brigid's.  Trisha's contact email is tbeamish@sbmord.catholic.edu.au.

MOTHERS DAY BREAKFAST

Again the weather…… sunshine and blue skies -  it was such a welcome sight to see our mums able to gather on the school grounds, chat and enjoyed a cuppa and a pastry with each other. I loved seeing parents back on site able to catch up with each other both before and after school.

A very big thank you to Jess, Michelle, Sophie and Dan, who arrived at 7am to set up and made our mums feel special.

Thank you also those who contributed to our fantastic Mother's Day Raffle.

NAPLAN

The annual NAPLAN tests commenced on Tuesday for our Year Three and Year Five students . The children are assessed in the following learning areas:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Language Conventions (Grammar)
  • Writing
  • Numeracy

The tests are now sent away for marking and assessment and then the NAPLAN reports are returned to school between late August and late September and this report will then be sent home to parents.

Sacrament of Eucharist

Last week our Year 4’s and their parents attended a Family Activity Night as part of their preparation for the Sacrament of Eucharist. It was lovely to see the parents and children spending time together exploring the Sacrament. The evening was facilitated by Mrs Ingrid Green who made the family night interactive, positive and a learning experience that all enjoyed and participated in.

Many thanks to Jodie Marziano, our Religious Education Leader who organised the night, Ms Angela Kavadias and Mrs Lorettta Flavelle who supported our parents and students.

Our Year 4 students will receive the Sacrament of Eucharist on Sunday 23rd May at 2pm at St Brigid’s Church.

Do it for Dolly #Be kind TOMORROW

Tomorrow we are supporting "Do it for Dolly Day" by asking our students to wear something blue.  This might be denium jeans, a blue windcheater, a blue ribbon in your hair or simply your blue school uniform.  (5/6 Students have inter-school sport so they will need to wear their sports uniform).  Do it for Dolly Day focuses on bringing the community together, spreading kindness and uniting in taking a stand against bullying.  Nothing is required except sending your child in blue.

Walk to School Day TOMORROW

Tomorrow Friday, 14th of May is National Walk to School day. We are inviting you to walk to school with us tomorrow.

Join members of our staff at the Ben Kavanagh playground/exercise equipment at 8am on Friday and we will all walk to school together.

If you can't join us at Ben Kavanagh on Friday why not park a little further away from school and walk the rest of the way.

All students who walk to school will receive a tattoo that they can put on and wear to school on Friday.

**If the weather does not favour us on Friday morning we will send a Skoolbag alert out by 7:45am and we will transfer the day to the following Friday - 21 May.

Save the Date - Saturday 7 August

A Big thanks to our P & F - looks like something exciting is happening!  Pop the date in your diaries now.

Save the Date - Thursday 19 August - Sacrament of Confirmation

Year 6 families be sure to mark Thursday 19th of August in your diaries for the Sacrament of Confirmation to be held at St Brigid's Church at 6:30pm.  More details will be communicated early next term.

Tracey will be on long service leave from Monday for the next two weeks.  Michele and our LSO's will be helping in the office.  I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy each others company.

Yours in partnership

Wendy Sullivan
