Year 9 and 10 - Drama roadshow

Last week students in Year 9 and 10 took a pantomime on the road to two local primary schools.  The Year 9 and 10 drama class produced and directed their own performance designed for Prep, Grade 1 and 2 students.

The younger students from Lucknow Primary School and Bairnsdale Primary School thoroughly enjoyed a comical take on their favourite fairy tale characters in the pantomime titled “The Mysterious Disappearance of Cinderella”.

Students were given the chance to choose their audience and theatre style and it was unanimously voted that taking a performance ‘on the road’ to primary schools was what the College students wanted.  The students all had an acting role and a production role and students learnt the basics of things like set design, costume design, props and sound design.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed their day and from all accounts our students certainly engaged their audiences with strong performances.  One of the prep classes performed for, even sent ‘fan mail’ in the form of drawings and cards to the college students after the event.

Reconciliation Week - 2021

To mark the start of Reconciliation Week on Thursday 27th May, senior students attended a Smoking Ceremony.  The students felt very privileged and were quite moved to attend a Smoking Ceremony as part of the Reconciliation Week activities organised by our Wellbeing Team.   Year 10 student Ronan Hudson gave an Acknowledgement to Country and Auntie Sandra Patten from GLWAC provided students with an explanation of the significance of a smoking ceremony. Year 7 students also had the opportunity to participate in Reconciliation Week activities lead by the VCAL students.

AFL

As part of the Bairnsdale Secondary College's sport program, a number of students were selected to represent the college and compete at Gippsland level for AFL and AFLW.

On Tuesday 25th May the Senior Boys AFL team travelled to the Traralgon West Sports Complex .  The boys put up a hard fought effort and played well as a unit, but unfortunately they did not have a win for the day.

Year 8 Boys AFL team Wednesday 26th May also travelled to the Traralgon West Sports Complex. The team put in an awesome effort in some wet and windy conditions. They managed 1 win and 2 losses which placed them 3rd on the ladder, unfortunately short of qualifying for a State Final.

On Thursday 27th May the Intermediate Girls AFLW travelled to the Yinnar Recreation Reserve.  The girls showed stellar skill and great sportsmanship and also played in some average weather. The team gave it a red hot crack and grew as a team each time they stepped on the field. No wins but lots of improvement and exciting times ahead.
