Principal's Message

Welcome to the end of week 8!
I thought for something a little different I would just walk you through a week at school.
Monday saw the exam program for the senior school start. Year 11 English was first “cab off the rank” and they set an extremely high bar! In uniform, on time, at it for the fully allocated time (2 hours, plus 15 minutes of reading time) and at all times respectful and beautifully behaved! Great job indeed. The afternoon saw the Year 12 English exam kick off ……. 3 hours! Same story....... excellent standards and high expectations. The proof will of course be in the results.
The Senior building is hence pretty quiet, but “true to form” the Wargomerrin building keeps us on our toes! The Year 7 model of core teachers and both Years 8 and 9 seemed very settled. We have made some physical changes in this space: Moved lockers, taken away 2 stage areas that really only “got in the way” and added a couple of doors!
I also hope that you have seen the new SWPBS signs around the College: They look great, but I am particularly pleased about the front of the admin building. If you haven’t noticed, have a look next time you drive by the front of the College.
Tuesday during the day is all about teaching and learning, BUT the night is all about Senior School Counselling! From 4.00 pm to 6.30 pm families made appointments to discuss the options and best choices for students. This event has been a massive success, with excellent feedback. The next opportunity is next Wednesday the 16th June at the same times.
Tuesday also saw the continuation of exams, all the maths subjects for Years 11 and 12. Super happy with the way that the students conducted themselves: Uniform, timely, making sure every last minute is capitalised on and most important of all – being well prepared.
Wednesday would have been the GAT (General Assessment Task) for all those students completing a unit 3 4 subject – but we got “Covided” again! There will be a new date, yet to be confirmed. This day also saw the heavens open. People have told me about the “10 year flood”, although I haven’t seen it yet. We spent time checking and double checking the plans for floods, buses and getting students home in a hurry, so we were as well prepared as we could be.
Thursday and Friday were full to the brim with Senior staff completing learning walks, teachers teaching, support staff supporting, students learning, Year 10 exams and all the usual work that goes on every day at the College.
As always if you would like a walk around and to “see us in action” …. Feel free to make a time (wait until the current Covid restrictions lift), then come on in! It is the nicest part of my day.
Something to Ponder: I had a quick conversation with a parent regarding uniform earlier in the week. Statements being made “no one wears it”…….. So we went for a walk to see the true story. The true story = approximately 97% of students in correct uniform. I happily accepted the apology and we all moved on.
Talk soon. Always happy to chat.
