Junior School

It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through Term 2 already!

On Friday the 30th April year 8 students attended a celebration day at Sidetracked Entertainment Centre in South Oakleigh where they took part in go-karting, laser tag, miniature tenpin bowling, mini golf and dodge-em cars. The aim of the day was to strengthen connections and develop healthy, happy and active students. The smiles, laughs and glowing reviews of the day indicated the true success of the excursion. So much so that a similar excursion of been planned for year 7 students to take place on the final day of Term 2 on Friday 25th June. There will be no cost associated with this, however we do require parent/carer consent via Compass, so please keep an eye out for email notifications regarding this.

Assessment and Reporting

In coming weeks students may notice an increase in the number assessment tasks required to be completed. It is very important that students plan their time effectively at home in order to keep up with work and to ensure that set deadlines are met. Students should make sure that they communicate with their classroom teachers in a timely manner if they require assistance with tasks or if they are experiencing any difficulties. House Coordinators are also available to assist students with with time management strategies or the development of a study schedules if desired.  In addition to this, various Learning Areas offer extra assistance to students on a voluntary basis:

Maths help: Tuesdays from 3:20 – 4:15pm in room 402.

Science Club: Mondays 1:25 – 2:10pm in room 305.

SEPEP

Year 7 and year 8 Physical Education classes recently completed a Sport Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP) unit within their PE classes. Year 7 students learnt the rules and concepts relating to netball, while year 8 students combined the fundamental skills of soccer and netball in the novel game known as Speedball. SEPEP is a student centred program where students not only take part in skills and games, but are also responsible for the administration of competition and leadership roles amongst their peers. Some classes and teams were lucky enough to have a special guest recruit with Europa the therapy dog joining in at times in defensive roles.

Uniform

A reminder that throughout Term 2 and Term 3 students are required to wear the designated winter uniform. The RSC dress code is available to download from the College website.

If students are unable to wear part of their daily uniform, they are required to wear their whole PE uniform as an alternative and bring a note from home explaining the circumstances and expected timeframes to the Junior School office before the start of period 1 in order to obtain a uniform pass.
