Alumni Network
Tram Tran, Acacia Campus Alumni Captain
Keysborough College has reached 4 years since establishing our Alumni Network. Alumni across both campuses, and from the foundation schools Springvale, Heatherhill, Chandler, and Coomoora, have returned to share their pathways journey, stories of their time at school, and knowledge of life beyond school to our students. Our alumni captains, Tram Tran from Acacia and Mariyah Hussein from Banksia, have worked tirelessly on our events and we asked them to share their impressions on their leadership role:
My first impression of the Alumni program was I did not know what it was about until an Alumni came in to speak to my business about his successful business. At this point I was very interested in getting more Alumni to come in and speak as it allows us students to see different career possibilities. Being a part of the Alumni team now, it is such a great program to get involved with as you are able to network with so many people and gain insightful advice and tips.
So far, the Alumni team has hosted a few events, the first was the year 7 orientation day where Mariyah and I were able to be on the panel, answering questions and sharing our experience throughout Keysborough College. The second event was the year 12 event, we were able to sit and listen to our guest Alumni talk about their schooling experience and their advice on coping with year 12. I can’t wait to have more events like this as well as interactive sessions for our students to meet with the Alumni.
Mariyah Hussein, Banksia Campus Alumni Captain
My first impression of the alumni community was of how connected everyone was and the diversity amongst the alumni, whether in experiences, aspirations, or careers. And now I would say my first impression was correct and that I am so glad to be in some way part of such a wholesome community.
This year so far as the Alumni captain I've overcome my fear of talking into mics, as well as talking to new people because of the opportunities I've gotten along with my role. I've been able to meet some amazing people, most of which were my seniors who I've seen graduate in the past years, and I have even been able to become quite good friends with one of them. Because of my fun experiences so far, I am looking forward to helping broaden the alumni community, meeting more alumni, and participating in future activities
