Music Program Report

It has been a very productive start to the year in the College Music Program.

Year 7 - The year began with all Year 7 students trying out each Band instrument to discover which instrument they wanted to learn in 2021.  The music centre at each campus echoed with the sounds of brass and woodwind instruments as the Year 7 students tried their best to make a sound on each instrument. A few weeks later, all students received a school instrument to use for the year and began lessons with their instrument teacher. Since that time, the students have made fabulous progress on their instruments and they are now preparing for their first band performance at the Beginner Band concert to be held in Week 7.

The Banksia Year 8 Band - Completed their very first performance in front of an audience at the Banksia Campus Open Night. They did a terrific job managing their nerves and performing to the best of their ability. Well done to all students involved!

The Acacia Year 8 Band - Performed a fabulous lunchtime performance with many students showing their support and listening on. Congratulations to all our music students for their hard work rehearsing and performing so far this year!

Senior Music - The Senior music students are also off to a great start with some amazing performances already completed. The Acacia Senior Band played at the Acacia Open Night with a range of pop and movie music that greatly entertained the visiting parents and students.

Upcoming Performances - Looking forward to seeing many parents, staff and students!

Acacia Year 7 Beginner Band Concert – Tuesday 1st June, 6pm-7pm, Acacia Gymnasium

Banksia Year 7 Beginner Band Concert – Thursday 3rd June, 6pm-7pm, Banksia Theatre

Annual International Student Excursion

Phillip Island, the location of our annual ISP excursion this year is a wonderful experience for me. Especially as a Year 12 International student, this is the time for us to join because it is our last outing together. To keep the beautiful memory for the end of strict and earnest student time to step into a new environment.

On the 7th of April, in the first week of the holidays, instead of staying at home, we chose to go to Phillip Island. We departed at 8:30 and it took us about 2 hours to get to the Antarctic Journey Centre-Nobbies Boardwalk, where we can see penguins and walk through in the 3D virtual icy locations.

Besides the Nobbies we also had a boardwalk together while chatting, enjoying the fresh air, and taking pictures together. Then we visited the chocolate factory to see how chocolates are made, and we got to play some mini games for chocolate. Then, we went to the Koala Conservation and saw the wilderness there – who knew koala bears can sleep so much during the day? After we had lunch together, we went to Churchill Island. As I learnt that area was first walked by the Boonwurrung/ Bunurong Aboriginal people. That is the time for us to have a visit through an ‘old’ homestead and enjoy time together. Then from that we went back to the Restaurant, finished the trip with a delicious dinner before going home. What an amazing trip with lots of memories made!       Huong Quynh NGUYEN

Annual International Student Excursion
Annual International Student Excursion

Mid-year report by International

Student Captain 2021

So, my last annual international student excursion has arrived. Three years of studying at Keysborough College is and will be one of the life experiences that I will never forget. I remember myself as a very shy year-10 boy coming to school worrying that I will never be able to adapt to this new environment, but thankfully it never happened. I am very glad that I chose Australia, especially Keysborough College to study abroad.

Therefore, one memory as I mentioned earlier, which I will add to my list of memorable times, is when I went to Phillip Island with the school, which has made me realise how wonderful Australian nature is.

Thank you all so much for the memories to our ISP Coordinators and my peers in the International Program. I have had some of the best fun of my life whilst getting ready to go out into the adult world. Tan NGUYEN

News from Banksia House Captains

Hello Keysborough students, we are two of your 2021 Banksia House Captains! Judy Le (Athena House Captain) & Kelly Wong (Poseidon House Captain). During the past two terms, we have been busy planning and arranging events such as lunchtime games and karaoke and House Spirit Day. It was great seeing all students from different year levels participating in activities, showing competitiveness and team spirit between all four house colours. We also helped to run the Year 7 House Activities, which was an amazing opportunity to communicate and have fun with the Year 7s and welcome them into the school. We hope everyone enjoyed these events, we all had a blast organising them! Later in the year, we will be responsible for arranging events like Keysborough’s Got Talent and House Athletics, helping out the teachers and cheering for our houses along with you all! We also have some more mini lunchtime activities and fundraising events planned.

The current House Point Tally for Banksia: 1st Athena, 2nd Artemis, 3rd Apollo and 4th Poseidon. Make sure you come and enjoy the activities planned and participate to earn some house points for your team! Please come and talk to us if you have any more ideas for fun and exciting events!
