Junior School
We have enjoyed a vibrant start to the school year in Junior School at both Acacia and Banksia campus. Our Year 7 cohort have settled in extremely well to secondary school life! Our Year 8 and 9’s have also embraced the challenge of a new academic school year following their very disrupted 2020 school year!!
We have enjoyed the added support of our Teacher tutors assisting classes and individual students in tackling their learning. Our Year 9 students thoroughly enjoyed their Wilson’s
Prom camp and our Year 8’s their time at Somers camp.
Our students have engaged positively in their learning, supported
numerous college events and taken up a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities.
Congratulations to Benjamin Nguyen . State Finalist in the Spelling Bee comp. Well Done
Lynda Portelli and Matthew Sloan, Assistant Principals Junior School
We loved welcoming back our Year 7’s 2020 grade 6 teachers for a tour of Banksia Campus!
And great to see our Year 7’s students have embraced using learning technologies and hands-on learning tasks too when completing project work.
A whole college Year 7 science excursion to Braeside park reinforced learnings in biology and indigenous culture– plus was a lot of fun!
Year 8 - Lord Somers Camp
From Wednesday May 12th to Friday May 14th, year 8 students from both campuses attended a very wet, but action packed camp at Lord Somers. They enjoyed kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, beach games, screen printing, music trivia and initiative games. The camp staff were fun and friendly and the lasagne on night two was delicious!
Kryall Castle Excursion
On Friday May 7th, Banksia Year 8 students visitors Kryall Castle as a compliment to their medieval history studies in Investigate. They learned about medieval torture, sword fighting and tried their hand at leather stamping. The weather was beautiful and students brought home knowledge that can be used in their final assignments.
Year 9 Camp - Wilsons Prom
In March 2021, the year 9s WENT on a 3-day camp to Wilson’s Prom. Once we arrived at the camping grounds, we had a short introduction on where we were staying. Whilst on the camp, the year 9s went on many walks and went to the beach quite a lot. For me, I would say the 10k hike on Mt. Oberon was one of the highlights of the camp, especially once we got to the top and saw the view. The night walk was also pretty fun because we were able to listen to ‘scary’ stories and made a wish by the rocks afterwards. We were also able to capture the moments of when the wombats would try and go inside people’s tents (which did happen) and when they interrupted our movie night and kept wandering around the outdoor cinema and under our chairs. This was a really memorable camp, especially the sore legs after the hikes, dirt getting inside people’s tents and getting to spend quality time with our friends and even getting to know our teachers better, plus being able to create new memories together was a highlight as well! Wilson’s Prom was a great new experience for all of us and I hope to hear stories from the future year 9s, when they’ll be able to go to Wilson’s Prom and experience it for themselves. By Rina Trinh
