Junior School News

We are going through uncertain times at the moment and it is important for students and families to look after each other and focus on the positive things that are happening each day. The students have continued to remain focussed in their classes which is pleasing to see.

Year 7 & 12 Fancy Dress

After a couple of months of rehearsing, dancing, choreographing, laughing, cheering and making countless mistakes on the routine, 7A were absolutely delighted to find out that we had won the year 7 and year 12 Fancy Dress competition for 2021.

Fancy Dress was an incredible experience and was definitely a highlight for us year 7s and hopefully for the year 12s too. The theme of this year’s competition was ‘artists’ and every class was given a different artist to portray and perform to their music. 7A danced to the artist Pitbull but artists such as Brittany Spears, Abba and One Direction were also performed by other classes. The year 12s then choreographed the dances for their assigned classes and we got together with them roughly once a week to learn and practice our routines. Lunchtime rehearsals were so much fun as not only did we get the chance to let loose and have a dance but it also gave us the opportunity to get to know and build relationships with our big sisters of the school, the year 12s.

After all the rehearsals were over and all the performances were ready, the day of the big competition arrived on Wednesday 12 May. All the classes got to experience the rush of the adrenaline as they performed their dances in front of all the other year 7s and the year 12s.

Based on the amount of enthusiasm from the audience, it’s pretty safe to say that all the classes delivered an incredible performance. We even got to see the year 12s and some of the teachers perform for a halftime show.

In the end, to our astonishment 7A took out the crown as the winners and we can’t wait to perform our dance in front of the rest of the school at our next college assembly.

On behalf of all of year 7, thank you so much to all the teachers, students and especially the year 12s for taking time out of your busy schedules to do this with us. We had a ball! You have really become our role models at MGSC:  those who we know we can always turn to if we need anything.

Fancy Dress was a phenomenal experience and we can’t wait to do it again in a few years when we get to year 12!
