IDAHOBIT at MGSC

31 years ago - on May 17, 1990 - the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.

On Monday 17th May, 2021, MGSC supported IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia) as a stance against discrimination and to support our students and local LGBTQIA+ community.

Bullying and discrimination occurs online, face to face and can affect everyone by creating spaces where people feel unsafe and like they can't be themselves. After a year of virtual friendships, we wanted to ensure all members of our community were recognised.

As part of our inclusive school ethos, we hosted a variety of Pride activities to encourage our students to be their authentic selves whether they are members of the LGBTQIA+ community or active allies.

The Pride activities included a photo booth, face painting, crafts and creating posters on how MGSC can be an Ally to the community. Thirty dedicated students assisted Ms Dimu and Ms Kennedy with setting up and running the activities.

Special mention to Lara Freney who was the ultimate ally, dressed in rainbow head to toe.
