2021 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge

Looking for a way to get your child more interested in reading? Would you like to encourage them to challenge or extend themselves?

Why don’t your kids have a go at the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge? The Challenge has already began- so don’t wait any longer to register and get reading.

This year, students need to be registered by a parent or guardian using this link https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/register. Once you have registered, the challenge coordinators will email you log in details so your child can access their personal dashboard and add the books they read. As children read books and log them on the dashboard, they progress through levels, achieving badges as they go. They also receive a special certificate at the end of the challenge. The online dashboard links children to everything they will need to track their reading progress. It intuitively suggests books that they might like based on what they’ve already read, allows them to choose an avatar and encourages them to rate books as they go.

Need more information? Easy to read instructions can be view on this link https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/events/prc/Pages/home-based-readers.aspx

Happy reading!

Celebration of Learning     Read the excerpts of students’ work below:

The Year Four’s from Miss Cook’s class have been working on some excellent persuasive pieces of writing that pose very convincing arguments. They’ve even included some figurative language to make their writing more entertaining.

Christmas is obviously better than Easter because at Christmas you decorate, celebrate and receive gifts. There are more ways to celebrate Christmas than I can name. For Christians, it’s a very special time in church as it is the birth of Jesus . Each family has their own traditions like eating a certain meal, watching a certain movie and so much more. Also, a lot of families go to or listen to Christmas Carols. Last time I checked (the internet for 10 minutes) there was no such thing as Easter carols.      Madeleine, 4C

I strongly believe Christmas is the best holiday because it is awesome. Friends, family, presents- you find these at Christmas. And this all happens in Summer, so you can swim and do more outdoor activities.    Jake, 4C

I absolutely recommend Christmas over Easter because it’s summer, there’s Christmas activities and presents from Santa. At Christmas there are also cool activities like looking at lights. I imagine a beautiful light show. Experts say that looking at fairy lights is satisfying. So go look at Christmas lights now!     Jude, 4C

Meanwhile, Mrs. Freeland’s class are working on writing highly descriptive sentences, using powerful adjectives they have identified in the books they are reading.

Thundering, massive waves are sparkling in the bright yellow sun.    Hudson, 2F

My cute and adorable puppy was thundering across the sand like a lightning bolt.

Cynric, 2F

I ran across the beach at a thundering speed, so fast that I ran right past my Mum.

Iyla, 2F

Our Prep students have been writing their very first narratives (and words!) ever- these ones are about what is through the magic door. Their writing skills are growing everyday.

I went on an adventure and I saw an elephant. I went to the Zoo and saw a lion.

Otis, Prep F

When the door opened I saw Monster trucks. (They went) Loop Loop.  Kayne, Prep F

I went to the castle with my Mum.     Lena, Prep F
