From our Chaplain
Bravery, mateship and sacrifice, were all words depicted in our moving Anzac day service at the college last week, which saw many students show their respect to the fallen soldiers. The whole school packed themselves onto the quadrangle. As the last post sounded you wouldn't have heard a pin drop as all stood in respect and solidarity together. Students shared stories and poetry about the day those young men approached the banks of Gallipoli, uncertain of what lay before them. The stories shared were so humbling and almost inconceivable to hear and consider in our modern world. Over this Easter and Anzac day I was able to reflect on this word sacrifice and how much of my life, if any, is a sacrifice to others? The quote used at Anzac day services "no greater love than this, that a man lay his life day for another" still must have some relevance to modern day society? But too often I see others and myself included getting frustrated by simple things and most often putting themselves first. It doesn't seem a natural position for us to put others first. Not that you need to lay your life down but how about we take some time to reflect on the example from our Anzacs, consider a little bit of sacrifice today and put someone else first.

Student Disclosure Training
On Wednesday the 1st of May 25 student leaders participated in Disclosure Training from EDVOS (Eastern Domestic Violence Services) and the Department of Education. As Ringwood Secondary College is a Respectful Relationships Lead School, EDVOS offered a student training workshop. This workshop trained the student leaders (Year 11 and 12 prefects and Wellbeing and Chaplaincy Captains across the school) to recognise, respond to and refer students who disclose information of being victim to family violence. The 3R’s of Family Violence Training taught student leaders how to appropriately respond to disclosures of family violence from their peers. Consultation with young people shows that they prefer to share their experience with peers before seeking help from a trusted adult. This training provided young people with the best actions they can undertake to support a peer and refer them to support. The students left the session feeling prepared and confident.
